ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) - From his service in law enforcement to being a smiling face during the 10 Best Days of Summer, a well-known Vermont public servant, Cornelius Reed, is being remembered in Essex Junction.
For 39 years, Reed rode around the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds in his golf cart. On Monday, friends and family gathered there to say their final goodbyes.
After putting his name on the board and a procession with a state police escort, Cornelius Reed is home.
Jane Wimble reflected on the life of her partner.
“It was his happy place. I give the fair people a lot of credit for treating him that way,” Wimble said.
Throughout his life, Reed wore many hats. He served in the Army and spent 29 years as a Vermont trooper. He was also a businessman and the longest-serving doorkeep
