Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule is a Penn State guy.

There’s no denying that.

Despite what his Wikipedia page says, Rhule was born at Centre Community Hospital in State College, Pennsylvania. He joked on Monday that he was probably wearing a Penn State shirt shortly after he was born. He was a walk-on linebacker from 1994 to 1997 under coach Joe Paterno, whom Rhule often quotes during his media availabilities. He met his wife, Julie, while they both worked at Chili’s one summer while in college.

With his background paired with his coaching pedigree, it’s not a surprise that Rhule’s name is one of the first to come up when discussing Sunday’s firing of Penn State coach James Franklin.
