PARADISE, MI – A walk along this stretch of Lake Superior shoreline can provide more than panoramic views of the tumultuous Great Lake.
A bird observatory is nestled at the tip of Whitefish Point, noting the movements of winged travelers as they migrate each spring and fall. The point is widely considered Michigan’s premier birding hotspot.
Jutting out into the huge lake, the point acts as a natural migration corridor, bringing thousands of birds through the flyway. This Globally Important Bird Area has recorded over 340 bird species, including songbirds, waterfowl and birds of prey.
