LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The drug overdose rate is down by 36% in the State of Michigan. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is crediting harm reduction efforts to the drop.

According to MDHHS, “more than 1,650 deaths [were] prevented due to increased access to naloxone. [And] approximately 13,200 emergency department visits were prevented between 2018 and 2023.”

In 2017, Ceo of the Fledge Jerry Norris lost his daughter to a Fentanyl overdose.

“It started with a minor in possession for cigarettes when she was 14, and it goes to her dying in a bathroom,” said Norris. “She was unconscious for 20 minutes, and I took her off life support on Father’s Day.”
