AVON LAKE, Ohio — The City of Avon Lake has announced its intention to buy the former Erieview Elementary School and convert it into a multi-use community center offering social services, meeting space and recreational programs for residents of all ages.

Erieview Elementary, which first opened in 1951, closed after the 2024–2025 school year as part of Avon Lake City Schools’ consolidation efforts to cut operating costs. Avon Lake Mayor Mark Spaetzel said in a news release that the city’s plan for the building is a “win-win opportunity” that would create a new space the community can use year-round and generate new revenue for the city.
