SPOKANE, Wash. — Those who knew Sarah Clark and Tanner Pehl are fighting to keep the man who murdered them behind bars, as a resentencing for Justin Crenshaw began Monday.
Crenshaw has been in prison for the last 15 years, sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for the double homicide of Sarah and Tanner in February 2008. Prosecutors say Crenshaw set Pehl’s house on fire to hide his crime after stabbing his friends multiple times.
On Monday, in a Spokane County courtroom, more than 20 family members and friends shared how the loss of Sarah and Tanner has left a hole in their lives.
Tanner’s older sister told the court that she still lives with PTSD, and says she wishes she could forgive Crenshaw, citing her vote against the death penalty as a sentence back in 2010.
