Cam Chapa, a sophomore safety on the University of Northern Colorado football team, was named Big Sky Conference defensive player of the week for the second time in his collegiate career Monday.

Chapa had a team-best 10 tackles and an interception returned 43 yards in the Bears’ 49-33 win over then nationally ranked No. 11 Idaho on Saturday in Moscow, Idaho.

Chapa shared the award with Montana defensive back Kenzel Lawler. With the Grizzlies trailing Cal Poly 9-0 at halftime Saturday, Lawler returned an interception 21 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter Saturday to help Montana to a 28-9 win.

Also Monday, Chapa was announced as an honorable mention selection for the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week. Chapa was UNC’s only selection to the 39-player Big Sky C
