EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) -- A concussion from a high school football player has brought awareness to the possibility of serious injuries from contact sport.
The CDC says tackle football is the leading sport for concussions in high school boys. JaQuar Johnson was airlifted to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis after being tackled during a Friday night football game and is now on concussion protocol.
Dr. David Schultz M.D. says this protocol is standard after this type of injury and damage from a concussion can be permanent if it's severe enough. Schultz says even with a helmet on, a hit is 300 to 600 lbs. of force.
Multiple symptoms can be present after a concussion, including:
Physical • Bothered by light or noise • Dizziness or balance problems • Feeling tired, no energy
