EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — As college campuses across the country are seeing pushback against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, those impacts are trickling down to Michigan State University.
Culturas De Las Razas Unidas, also known as CRU, says that its funding was paused due to the Trump administration’s civil rights compliance requirements.
The group dates back to the mid to late 1960s, and receives $25,000 annually, with organizers saying that funding is used to help with events like the Latino Achievement Gala, Dia De Los Muertos, and so many more.
Rafael Serrano, President, and Jessica Cornejo, Vice President of CRU, say they were told in a meeting last month about university funding changes and were instructed to update their organization’s constitution.
