ST PAUL, Minn. — Many airports around the country will ramp up travel as we head into the holidays. In Minnesota, the busy travel season starts this weekend.

MEA weekend kicks off in a few days, with tens of thousands expected to travel over the long weekend.

"Peak on Thursday, with 52,000 plus going through the checkpoints," Jeff Lea with the Metropolitan Airports Commission said.

It's already shaping up to be busy - Lea says this will rival Thanksgiving in terms of busyness.

Of course, there's another layer for the airport and travelers to work through this year, as the government continues to be shut down.
