GILBERT, Ariz. — Gilbert Mayor Scott Anderson is promising answers as frustration mounts among residents over soaring water bills—some jumping by hundreds, and in a few cases, thousands of dollars.

In an exclusive interview with 12News, Anderson said the town is taking the issue seriously and has launched an investigation into the sudden spikes.

“Thousands of dollars—when they didn’t pay anything like that in the past—there’s a problem,” Anderson said. “There’s something wrong, and we need to help them understand what it is.”

The controversy began earlier this month when Gilbert resident Nancy Stipp noticed her water usage appeared to skyrocket. Her monthly consumption—normally around 29,000 gallons—suddenly ballooned to nearly 300,000 gallons, an increase of roughly 1,000 percent.
