PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - The Jewish Federation of Peoria is celebrating the signing of President Donald Trump’s peace plan between Israel and Hamas.

“I have to tell you; it was very emotional to hold your breath and pray. A lot of prayer, a lot of holding of the breath, but we are very, very grateful that the process worked,” said LaDona Fishkin, the Peoria federation’s executive director.

Hamas released the 20 remaining Israeli hostages who are still alive since their abduction on Oct. 7, 2023. In return, Isreal released about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

Fishkin acknowledged the work of making peace is not done.

“I’m grateful for a ceasefire,” said Fishkin. “I’m tired of seeing explosions on both sides. I am praying for the opportunity to rebuild both Israel and Gaza.”
