MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Today, people are celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across the nation, and one local college is bringing students and the community together to educate and celebrate on this day.
Indigenous Peoples' Day is observed on the second Monday of October every year.
This year, Minot State University came together to honor Indigenous heritage with an event featuring speaker Jamie Azure, the chairman of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, along with a banner walk around campus.
During the banner walk, attendees held two banners, one of which read, "we're still here."
"I believe that it's important to advocate for Native peoples that we are still here because Indigenous peoples all around the world faced genocide," said Jaylee Jay,
