JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Jonesborough Board of Aldermen passed a two-year moratorium on bitcoin mines and data processing centers in the town limits.
The town joins other localities, including Bristol and Johnson City, that have implemented moratoriums to allow for time to study their impacts and determine the best way to regulate them.
"So I think what we're going to do is take a little bit of time, study the issue, and come back with, in our opinion, a fair proposal," Mayor Kelly Wolfe told News Channel 11.
An attempt to implement a moratorium in Johnson County failed last month.
