STANFORD, Ill. (WMBD) - Not too many football teams in Central Illinois had a better Friday night than Olympia.
The Spartans knocked off the number one team in 2A, Maroa Forsyth. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and reinvigorated the program.
They also took a lesson from the 1985 state runner-up team, who talked to them just before the game.
"Really, that team persevered through a lot of adversity and had to overcome a few things. And just like our team, we've lost a couple of games and we still feel like we have a really good football team. And I think the message was like, Stay the course. It was an awesome atmosphere. The crowd's fired up the cow bells were ringing and the pork chops were grilling. And you know, it smelled like Olympia on a Friday night. _Eric Lyons, Head F
