HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The city of Homewood will soon begin enforcing new regulations on homeless encampments after the city council voted 8-0 Monday night to approve an ordinance aimed at addressing public safety and community concerns.

Three council members were not in attendance for the vote.

The new ordinance, which takes effect Tuesday morning, Oct. 14, introduces stricter rules for those sleeping or setting up encampments on public property. It prohibits lying down or sleeping in public spaces—except during permitted events or in emergencies—and bans sleeping in vehicles or bathing on public property.
