The Albanese government was snubbed from the Middle East peace summit chaired by US President Donald Trump in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

The summit, convened at the Red Sea resort city, brought together more than 20 representatives from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South America, and North America.

Representatives discussed the future of the Gaza Strip following a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, but Australia was notably absent.

The Albanese government was not invited, despite claims it had “certainly contributed” to the ceasefire deal brokered by US President Donald Trump.

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles defended Australia’s absence, framing the summit as primarily focused on Middle Eastern and European leaders.
