LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Sheriff Tom Selman announced Monday evening that Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Assistant Commander Chad Gartman has died. He was 52.

Selman said that Gartman died on Sunday after a lengthy battle against cancer. He was married to retired Angelina County Sheriff Kent Henson’s daughter, Ashley. They have two sons.

According to Selman, Gartman was a 31-year veteran of law enforcement, becoming a Texas Peace Officer upon graduation from the Angelina College Police Academy in 1994. Gartman served as a deputy constable in Nacogdoches County for almost six years prior to entering service with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Law Enforcement Division and accepting his assignment as a Texas Game Warden.
