PHILADELPHIA − Za'Darius Smith, who leads the Eagles edge rushers in sacks, announced on social media on Oct. 13 that he is retiring after 11 seasons in the NFL.
The Eagles signed Smith on Sept. 5, one day after they opened the season against the Dallas Cowboys. Smith made an immediate impact in his first game, sharing a sack with safety Drew Mukuba in the Eagles' 20-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 14.
Smith, who's 33 years old, ended up with 1.5 sacks in five games, the most among the Eagles' edge rushers.
Smith retires with 70.5 career sacks with the Baltimore Ravens , Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings , Cleveland Brown, Detroit Lions and Eagles.
