In a major revelation in the Coldrif cough syrup deaths case, the Madhya Pradesh Police told a district court that the arrested doctor, Praveen Soni, had confessed during interrogation that he was receiving a 10% commission from the pharmaceutical company for prescribing the medicine.

According to police submissions, Dr Soni and several other medical practitioners continued to recommend the syrup even after learning that children who consumed it had developed severe urine and kidney complications. Investigators said this negligence directly contributed to the deaths linked to the consumption of the cough syrup.
