Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, renowned folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur on Tuesday joined the BJP in Patna in the presence of state party chief Dilip Jaiswal.

Her formal entry into politics comes amid strong speculation that she may be fielded from the Alinagar seat in the Darbhanga region. The seat is currently held by BJP’s Mishrilal Yadav, whose ticket is likely to be dropped, according to party sources.

Thakur’s induction marks a high-profile cultural addition to the BJP’s Bihar unit as the party seeks to expand its appeal ahead of the state polls.
