COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Concern about the financial impact of the government shutdown on local families is growing, as the shutdown enters a third week.
With many locals employed at Fort Benning or other government agencies, some folks, like DeWayne Webb, are getting worried.
Webb, an Army veteran, is the founder of local non-profit All About Family Fitness and Global Kingdom Work, an Amazon delivery service partner. His says wife was furloughed when the shutdown began.
Though the pair have saved funds for situations like this, they know others may not be as fortunate and want to help.
“My concern is those essential needs going unmet; food, healthcare, bills, light, water, gas in the car to simply take your kids to the places they need to go,” Webb said Monday, as the shut down hit day
