An investigation is underway in Margate after a boy was shot Monday night, police said.

According to the Margate Police Department , officers responded to a shooting near the intersection of Rock Island Road and Forest Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found a juvenile male with a gunshot wound. Police said the victim was trauma alerted to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was alert and taken into surgery.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and no suspect information has been released.

The Margate Criminal Investigations Unit is leading the investigation, which remains active.
