It was a bumpy transitional September for the Seton Catholic football program.
The Cougars graduated 13 seniors off last year’s 1A state runner-up team, including several now playing at the college level.
Seton opened the season with 33-28 loss to Columbia River and then fell 44-21 to Oregon 3A team Banks in Week 4.
But Friday night’s matchup of league unbeatens with Kalama showed the Cougars are still a force in the Trico League.
Quarterback Kolten Gesser threw for 204 yards and three touchdowns and Aqeel Bauman rushed for 84 yards all in the first half of a 47-6 rout of the Chinooks .
Defensively, Cougars held Kalama to three first-half first downs.
Head coach Dan Chase said those two non-league losses helped shape a much younger Seton roster this fall.
