Attracting newcomers to Northern Ontario is one thing. Keeping them here is another and that will be the topic of the Magnetic North 2025 conference in Sudbury in December.
“Retention has always been part of the Magnetic North conversation, but now this year it will be the central focus,” Paula Haapanen, vice president of the Northern Policy Institute and its lead for the immigration projects.
“Attraction brings people north, settlement helps them start their lives, but retention is what ensures they, and their families, grow and prosper along with their new neighbours and communities.”
The Northern Policy Institute said leaders and decision-makers across Northern Ontario have come together annually since 2020 to discuss how to make the region more welcoming to newcomers.
