Five men who were part of a grooming gang have been found guilty after teenage girls were drugged, given alcohol and then sexually exploited, according to Northumbria Police.
The police launched an extensive investigation into allegations of offences against six victims between 2014 and 2019 in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.
The probe revealed exploitation of girls aged between 13 and 16, leading to multiple charges of rape being filed.
An eight-week trial at Newcastle Crown Court concluded on Tuesday with the conviction of five men, four of whom are Romanian and one Albanian, all residing in the Bensham area of Gateshead during the time of the grooming.
