The San Diego Zoo celebrated the birth of a female okapi calf back on September 2, 2025.
At five weeks old, she does not have an official name yet.
The calf was born to mom Subira and first-time dad Kapu, the first calf born at the zoo since 2021.
She is also the first calf to be born in the habitat. That means guests have the opportunity to see mother and calf when they visit them at Lost Forest.
The calf’s birth helps support okapi, which are an endangered species, as part of an Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan Program.
