MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -The Blue Mounds woman accused of killing her own mother , Sierra Schoonover, has plead not guilty due to mental disease or defect.

Schoonover, 31, is accused of first-degree intentional homicide by use of a dangerous weapon with domestic abuse assessments.

Schoonover was arrested in April after neighbors say she and her mother, Heather Schoonover , were fighting in their front yard. By the time police arrived, the women had gone inside the house and officers found Heather, 54, with multiple stab wounds. Sierra had left the scene.

Soon after, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Blue Rock Road near State Highway 78. Sierra, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was placed into custody.

After receiving treatment at a local hospital, she was taken
