ST. LOUIS – A driver who struck a moped in the Boulevard Heights neighborhood earlier this month was confirmed to be an off-duty St. Louis police officer.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the crash happened just after midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Morganford Road and Carondelet Boulevard.

Police said a Ford F-150, driven by the off-duty officer, was traveling southbound on Morganford with a green light.

The officer made a left-hand turn onto Carondelet as the moped was traveling northbound on Morganford across Carondelet. The vehicles collided in the intersection.

The moped driver, a 49-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The 44-year-old officer in the pick-up truck was uninjured.
