CLEVELAND, Ohio – Every so often, reports surface of unusual animals found in the wilds of Ohio.
Last year, an alligator was reported in a pond in Beavercreek, only to have authorities investigate and then dispel the rumor. However, two of the tropical beasts were spotted in a western Ohio river the previous year. One was killed and the other was apparently never found.
Two years ago, the dead body of a pregnant fisher was discovered on an Ashtabula County road, suggesting to state game officials that the small but tenacious mammal that disappeared from the state in the 1880s - only to have been sighted here again in 2013 - was starting to colonize in Northeast Ohio.
