DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) - After a CBS 17 viewer contacted our newsroom regarding illegal dumping on a Durham road, CBS 17 got them results.
Illegal dumping can cost violators a fine of $500 all the way up to $5,000, but that has not stopped people from tossing large items onto Durham streets.
Merrick Street is tucked away between downtown Durham and North Carolina Central University. The junk along that road however is anything but tucked away.
A Durham resident wrote to CBS 17 saying this street “has been like this for years and the city has done nothing to control the illegal dumping that people are doing.” That viewer noted they were concerned about the impact to property values in the area.
The illegal dumping on Merrick Street is happening less than five miles away from Durham’s waste
