FRANKLIN COUNTY, Arkansas — The Arkansas Attorney General's Office is asking a Pulaski County judge to dismiss a lawsuit challenging Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders' timeline for the District 26 special election.

In a brief filed on Oct. 13, attorneys for Sanders and Secretary of State Cole Jester argue that the plaintiff has failed to identify any legal wrongdoing in the governor's scheduling of the election. Attorneys also argue that the case should be dismissed on the grounds of sovereign immunity.

The District 26 seat was left vacant after Sen. Gary Stubblefield died on Sept. 2. District 26 includes portions of Franklin, Johnson, Logan, and Sebastian counties.
