A funny thing happened on the way to Ford Field.

All season long, it looked like Dearborn Divine Child was a lock to be one of the entrants for Prep Bowl LIII at Ford Field in Week 8 — a lineup which is almost set — playing in one of the Catholic High School League’s showcase games, rolling along undefeated, posting shutout after shutout.

The Falcons — who have outscored opponents 247-37 — didn’t give up a point until Week 5, when they notched their first win since 1998 over three-time defending state champion Jackson Lumen Christi.
