A 21-year-old London man is facing several charges after police say a driver was travelling nearly twice the speed limit and refused to stop for officers in the city’s south end.

Police said officers from the force’s road safety section were on Exeter Road near Middleton Avenue around 8 p.m. Monday when a mobile radar showed a black Ford F-150 speeding at 148 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver ran a red light onto Wharncliffe Road South and changed lanes before coming to a stop a short distance away, police said.

Officers positioned their vehicles at the front and rear of the truck to prevent it from moving further. But as the driver got out of the truck, it moved forward and struck a police vehicle, causing minor damage, police said.
