NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KETK) -- Former Nacogdoches ISD principal, Roxanne Lathan, announced her candidacy for the 2026 Texas House of Representatives midterm election over the weekend.

Lathan, a Nacogdoches native, spent 21 years in public education, including serving as principal of the Margie Chumbley Academy.

After retiring from education in February of this year, she is making the jump to local politics in the 2026 midterm.

This past weekend, Lathan invited the East Texas community to a meet and greet at the Nacogdoches County courthouse, where she answered questions and heard from community members.

Lathan is running to represent District 11, which includes the following counties: • Nacogdoches • Newton • Panola • Rusk • Sabine • Shelby
