SANTA CLAUS, Ind. —

A man and woman are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in southern Indiana.

The Spencer County Sheriff's Office received a call on Tuesday from 48-year-old Jamie Adkins, saying she had just shot her husband, John.

Indiana State Police, the Santa Claus Police Department and SCSO all responded to a residence on South Kasper Drive in Santa Claus. This is about an hour outside of Louisville.

When police arrived at the home, they found 49-year-old John Adkins dead from a gunshot wound. Jamie was also found inside the home with a gunshot wound.

Police said Jamie was rushed to an Owensboro hospital, where she died.

Autopsies are being conducted in Indiana.

ISP said the investigation is ongoing.
