GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - Lisa Coffey, an educator with a long history in northeast Tennessee, died in a car crash Monday morning, a police report obtained by WVLT News has confirmed.

Coffey was a geometry teacher at Cherokee High School and an adjunct professor at Walters State Community College who had previously taught at Cosby High School.

Hawkins County School Director Matt Hixson gave WVLT News a statement on Coffey’s passing, saying “we are greatly saddened by the loss of Lisa Coffey who passed away in an automobile accident.”

That crash happened at the crossroad of Andrew Johnson Highway and Turner Hill Road. The report said Coffey was driving when a semi-truck in front of her slowed, and she crashed into the back. She was trapped inside her car, the report said, and died at
