St. Louis City SC’s season definitely ends Saturday when it faces Real Salt Lake at Energizer Park, but for many of the players on the team, that end comes with a lot of uncertainty.

Sixteen players on the team have options, which put their futures in the hands of the team, and there’s also defender/midfielder Conrad Wallem, who is with the team on loan from Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic. The loan ends on Dec. 31, and City SC has an option to purchase him.

Will they do it?

He has no idea.

“You should ask the sporting director,” Wallem said Tuesday, smiling. “The one we don’t have.”

City SC, of course, has been without a permanent sporting director since Lutz Pfannenstiel was fired. Ideally, City SC would like to have the incoming sporting director have a hand in these decisions,
