EDWARDSVILLE — Abi Monroe’s block Tuesday night erased 19 years of frustration for the Belleville East girls volleyball team.
Monroe’s block sealed a 25-20, 17-25, 25-21 win for the visiting Lancers against Edwardsville, snapping a 25-game losing streak against their Southwestern Conference rival. The last time East beat the Tigers was October 5, 2006, when no one on the Lancers’ roster was even born.
“They're definitely a very good team, so obviously that's a big thing for us,” Monroe said. “And we know all the teams that we're going to play like at the end of the season, they're all going to be just as good, and we're just going to have to keep bringing our ‘A’ game.”
Paige Hill put down 11 kills and Liv Kraus recorded 10 for East (22-5 overall, 8-2 conference), No. 10 in the STLhigh
