Former Ohio State and New York Jets star Nick Mangold needs a kidney.

The 41-year-old Ohio native took to social media on Tuesday afternoon and opened up on his ordeal, revealing he’s been undergoing dialysis and is looking for a transplant following a diagnosis dating back nearly 20 years ago.

Mangold said he had a “rough summer,” having contracted kidney disease due to a genetic defect, claiming that he knew the day would come but imagined he had more time.

“This isn’t an easy message to share, but I want to be open about what’s been happening with me and my health,” he wrote in a tweet.
