BELVIDERE, Ill. — The Belvidere Assembly Plant just secured funding to reopen.

On Tuesday, global automaker Stellantis announced it would invest more than $600 million to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant. The company is investing the money to expand production of two Jeep models, the Cherokee and Compass, for the US market.

Production is expected to start in 2027 and create around 3,300 new jobs.

State Representative Dave Vella expressed his enthusiasm over the news.

“Belvidere has long been a place where world-class vehicles roll out onto the roads of America. That tradition, that craftsmanship, is part of who we are. And now, the legacy continues,” said Rep. Vella.
