ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Better Business Bureau has sent out another scam warning ahead of a government service enrollment period opening.

The BBB says participants in this year's Medicare Open Enrollment from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 need to be extra wary of AI being used for scams. They say all Medicare-eligible individuals should be aware.

Dennis Horton, Senior Director of the BBB's Rockford Regional Office, said scammers could sound persuasive with the help of AI.

"A con artist could sound very convincing if they say, because of the government shutdown, they need your Medicare ID number to re-authorize your enrollment," said Horton.
