PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Additional charges and a correct birthdate are what led to three youths being detained at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center in the wake of a shooting on Sunday.
Brian Brown, who heads probation services for the county, said that when Peoria police officers first called the detention center to inquire about holding the youths, they were in custody on one count of possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 21.
That relatively minor count and an improper birthdate, which gave the improper perception that one of the teens had no record, led the JDC to consider releasing the teens.
