WASHINGTON — Current and former federal workers joined Democratic lawmakers from Virginia and Maryland on Tuesday to announce their intention to legally challenge the Trump administration’s government firings .

“I’m here because sometimes it feels like shouting into the void," said a current federal employee who requested anonymity to protect her job. "We do not know who is listening or who is going to wake up. This is not at all partisan."

She works at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), focusing on cancer research. She said her work has never been a partisan issue, nor should it be now.

“I work in a building that’s nearly half empty, and every day it’s a visual reminder of how they are able to essentially bulldoze over an agency,” she said.
