NBC Connecticut Investigates learned Tuesday that Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres-Garcia was withdrawn from the New Britain School District last fall.

The remains of Torres-Garcia, 12, were found in a bin in New Britain last week.

Her mother, and the mother's boyfriend are facing multiple charges, including murder. Torres-Garcia's aunt is charged with unlawful restraint in the first degree, risk of injury to a child, and intentional cruelty in connection with the case.

On the day Torres-Garcia was supposed to start sixth grade in New Britain in August 2024, Karla Garcia notified the district the family moved to Farmington and she intended to homeschool her daughter.
