LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is getting a $290 million boost in the new state budget. However, despite the increase, some key programs for veterans are still facing budget cuts.

In the new state budget, more than $200,000 is being cut from the Michigan Veterans Coalition Service Officer Program. The budget also cuts $1.7 million from the state’s Veterans Affairs agency administration funding line. And a one-time veteran homelessness grant of $2.5 million is being eliminated.

Dozens of veterans and supporters from across Michigan gathered at the Capitol on Tuesday, Oct. 14, in protest of those budget cuts, specifically those affecting women veterans.

“We will not be dismissed, we will not be silenced, and we will not be left behind.”
