SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) - A proposed battery energy storage facility in Summit Township is moving forward after a unanimous vote by the Planning Commission Tuesday night.

The project from Aypa Power of Austin, Texas, would cover 13 acres on Purdy Drive, next to a Consumers Energy substation. The facility would store power from the grid during off-peak hours and release it back during high demand.

Developers say design plans include drainage work and elevation changes to limit visibility and manage stormwater. But several residents voiced concerns over wetlands, safety, and property values near nearby homes.
