The final words of convicted double murderer Samuel Lee Smithers have been revealed following his execution Tuesday evening at Florida State Prison near Starke. ‌

Smithers, 72, was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m local time after receiving a lethal injection that began at 6pm under a death warrant signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. He was the 14th person executed in Florida this year, extending the state’s record for the most executions in a single year. ‌

When asked if he had a final statement, he responded, “No sir.” ‌
