COLUMBUS, Ga. — Investigators with the Columbus Police Department are taking a fresh look at a cold case that has remained unsolved for nearly three decades.

Laura Chaney, 37, was found shot to death on Jan. 4, 1998, outside the former Peabody Apartments on Talbotton Road. The complex is now known as Ashley Station. Her killer has never been caught.

Chaney’s children have made emotional pleas in previous interviews, asking anyone with information about their mother’s murder to come forward to police.

The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit continues to hold key evidence in the case but needs someone with the right information to step forward and help solve the nearly 27-year-old murder.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call 706-225-3161 or email cpdga@co
