PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) — A husband, wife, son and granddaughter were found dead Monday night in what officials believe was a house fire on Wehring Lane in Phenix City, prompting an ongoing investigation into the deadly fire.
According to Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr., the victims were 77-year-old Willey Chappell, his wife 70-year-old Sarah Chappell, their son 40-year-old Vantice Williams, and 6-year-old granddaughter Paradise Williams. All four were pronounced dead at the scene due to possible smoke inhalation.
Fire officials have not yet released what caused the fire, but the incident has left neighbors with questions about the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
